Welcome to the Fifth International Conference “Evolutionary Medicine: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Understanding the Diversity of Human Health and Disease”. We kindly invite PhD students from various fields of research, other junior researchers and undergraduate students to participate in this international interdisciplinary scientific event, share their research and collaborate in solving medical problems together with researchers in other fields.
Conferences on Evolutionary medicine have been organized at Vilnius University biannually since 2012. Only because of the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic was the conference postponed to 2022. The present Conference will focus on an interdisciplinary approach to the study of changes in the human body, general health and diseases in relation to different environments. We aim to bring together participants from different fields of research (medicine, anthropology, biology, psychology, physical sciences, etc.) to foster an interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach to research related to the diversity of the human body, health and diseases.
Evolutionary approach is vital to a better perception of numerous health problems of the modern world: metabolic diseases, obesity pandemics, food safety issues, cardiovascular risk, prevalence of autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative pathologies, cancer, new infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance. The best way to understand the mechanism of existing diseases is to bring together in-depth knowledge from many areas of research, focusing on the same problem from a specific perspective. That is why we do not announce preliminary topics in advance, here we follow the principle - from the bottom up. Sessions are formed later - when we already have topics on the same research subject, but from different research profiles. We would like to wish all the participants active scientific discussions, and fruitful interdisciplinary cooperation.
